Robots were the catalyst for my first interest in learning more about computing. Back in grade school I read Asimov’s Robot Novels, along with I, Robot and other Asimov-penned robot stories. The idea of intelligent machines remains a driving force behind my personal quest for knowledge, despite numerous movies suggesting a more dangerous end to humans based on the rise of machine intelligence. True machine intelligence remains many years in the future, although advancements continue to be made. When machines reach a sentient state, will humans find it necessary to protect their rights?
