When fan films have a budget, good things happen. Originally planned as a one-off Star Trek adventure, overwhelming popularity warranted a continuation of the Starship Exeter fan fiction series. Featured here is The Tressaurian Intersection, which finds the crew of the Starship U.S.S. Exeter searching for a ship in distress. They encounter a damaged starbase and then the plot gets interesting. Did an enemy species from Captain Garrovick’s past invent the ultimate weapon, or could the truth be even stranger and more deadly?

The original episode, “The Savage Empire,” with Captain John Garrovick leading a mission to save a ship infected with a deadly plague, is also available on YouTube.

Shot in 2004, the creators intended to recreate the style of a 1969 TV show, right down to the lighting, rubber-suited aliens, and the look of photo-optical visual effects. They succeeded at all of that and then some. Production details and special effects are better than anything Captain James T. Kirk faced back in the day.

Starship Exeter was originally released before YouTube existed and has reached a much wider audience over the years thanks to the popularity of the platform. The official YouTube channel also offers behind the scenes clips and a few scenes from the cutting room floor.
