A foam roller may seem like a fairly boring purchase, but after trying to keep myself conditioned for running without one, I learned that rolling was one of the best ways to keep my legs in the game for the long haul. The one pictured here is a Trigger Point foam roller in the 13-inch size.
UPDATE 25 February 2024: Tens years later I still find a foam roller to be essential for recovery from running and long hikes. More recently I added a Theragun to my recovery mix. Definitely consult your physician on the right tools for your own personal needs, but I’ve seen benefit from both.
